Biography / Interesting Facts

The grandson of “The Dapper Don”

Gotti III is the grandson of infamous, mob boss John Gotti, who ran the Gambino crime family from the mid-80’s until his imprisonment in 1992. After being convicted on multiple charges and receiving a lifetime sentence without parole, Gotti passed away in 2002.
In 2018, the rising fighter Gotti III had this to say about his grandfather and the attention his family’s last name draws (3):

“I’m adjusted to it by now. You get these same questions over and over, over the course of your whole life. Since a kid, I’m just kind of used to it at this point. At the same time, I’m just trying to take my own path…”

Gotti III’s transition into MMA

The New York fighter grew up playing football, and due to extensive weight training, Gotti III reportedly weighed as much as 260 pounds at one juncture (4).

In 2014, however, the future welterweight decided to start training at Bellmore Kickboxing MMA in Bellmore, New York. The gym has been a training home for UFC veterans like Gregor Gillespie, Costas Philippou and Gian Villante, and is led by coaches Keith Trimble, Spiro Vlantis and Matt Berman.

After just two months of training, Gotti III took his first amateur fight competing at light-heavyweight. The heavy-handed fighter proceeded to work his way to a split decision victory over Henry Mills, at an MMA Platinum Gloves event in September, 2016.

In a 2019 interview, Gotti’s father John, had this to say about his son’s amater debut (5):

“It was really something as a father watching. To watch when John was completely out of gas in the second round to rally up and win that fight, he showed me something you can’t teach in this business. You can’t teach heart and my sons got a ton of heart.”

Continued success with CES MMA

After Gotti’s victorious pro-debut, the welterweight continued to fight under the CES MMA banner. In his next three fights, Gotti III recorded first round stoppage wins in all of them. Two of the bouts did not make it past the 60 second mark.
